Litracy decline
Let's go back a few hundred years. Back then Reading was a sign of sophistication, intelligence and often wealth. As more people learned to read and books became cheaper, it lost it's sophistication status.
Today, Reading is something that is put on us at an early age and we take it for granted. I have no problem with that. I consider to spread of lieracy to be a gift, a gift we take lightly, but a gift nonetheless.
What does bother me is something someone said to me not too long ago. During a discussion of various stories (quite likely the harry potter franchise) they said "well, I don't read books. I just see the movie".
I can understand that not everyone likes to read certain kinds of books, but to me a dislike of all books is strange. Can someone say they don't like music? Movies? YouTube? No, because all are so varied that there is something for everyone. Literature is the same. There is a type of book and style for everyone, even if it's katie price's biography.
So are we just becoming lazy. Do we see text and think of it as a waste of time? We've taken something for granted and are now beginning a trip backwards.

The Internet
I tend to spend a lot of time on Youtube. I don't make videos (yet) nor have I, to the best of my knowledge, ever been featured in one. Despite this, I love watching the "pro-youtubers" work. I actually watch youtube rather than tv.
Now Facebook. I have a facebook and I find myself checking it whenever I can. It's like an impulse thing. While I was away last week I found myself, whenever I got internet, checking facebook first. Having it on my iPod is an even bigger curse. I imagine it's the same as with other social networks.
In conclusion, I am addicted to the internet and damn proud of it I must say. I have a blog that no one reads for god sake. If that's not obsession I don't know what is!
